State Park Sundays

And Other Maine Exploration Adventures 

Sundays are for glorifying God and so we always attend Mass.  But then after church, it is family time and one of our family favorites is hiking.  It’s great to get out in nature and see God’s glory in the beauty of our Maine mountains and waters.  

Hiking in Maine is like this impossible to do list.  There are so many great places to go and so many trails at each of these places… it is a little overwhelming.  My husband, Justin came up with the perfect solution to keep us trying our new locations and seeing new sights… you want to know what it is right?  

Here it is; the best birthday present ever. This is a big map of Maine framed on cork board.  We have a list of all the state parks on the bottom right and little flags to pin in where we’ve gone. We have been to more places than is showing here but we are starting from when we set up the map.  We can then number the flags and correspond them with a scrapbook we are planning!

This was a slippery and tricky hike for Boomer, but he made it!  The trail has you cross the river 5 times.  Angel Falls in Township D on 7/25/2021.  Find the details to visit on Maine trail finder!  I recommend writing out directions because you will lose service.  You take “The Bemis”, a logging road, to a little gravel pit parking area.

We also stopped in Roxbury, Maine at “The height of land” the only spot with cell coverage for miles.  There is a beautiful view and from this high up, it seems you are closer to the clouds.

On the way home, we stopped at Mount Blue state park for a little swim.  Also part of Mount Blue state park, is Tumbledown Mountain.  We did hike Tumbledown a month earlier.  Check it out below.  On our way home we also saw a little black bear cub run across the road in front of our van.  Check out the video using this link to my Pinterest video Baby black bear.

Tumbledown was a great hike, but tough on the five year old.  We were glad we didn’t bring our youngest or the dog Boomer.  It is not a hike for four footed friends. 

There is a lovely lake for swimming at the top.

We went with a big group of Catholics from St. Rose of Lima in Jay to Prince of Peace in Lewiston.  We celebrated mass on the mountain; a first for me. I think Acadia took this wonderful picture.
